The Fleyes originally are tools used by the Valle d’Aosta peasants to beat the corn after the cutting. During the years, and because of technology, they are not used any longer for this purpose but, with a few modifications like applying harmonic cases, they are nowadays employed by lots of musical and folkloristic Valle d’Aosta groups as very efficient percussion instruments.
